Highlights from the competitions- APIK Mississauga presented by Samsung Galaxy

Mississauga turned into the heart of winter action sports this past weekend, and APIK Fest delivered on every level. Three days of pure mayhem—skateboarding, snowskating, skiing, and snowboarding, all in a downtown setup that pushed the limits of what’s possible in an urban snow environment. From plywood landings and snow tumbles to dream-like rail setups and mind-blowing transfers, this weekend was a full-throttle send fest. Here’s how it all went down.

FRIDAY NIGHT – SNOWSKATE & SKATEBOARD CASH4TRICKS SHOWDOWN

If you thought snowskating was just skateboarding on snow, think again. The Ambition Snowskates crew reminded everyone why this sport is pure chaos—oversized features, frigid slams, and tricks that leave you questioning physics. Raph Detienne, as expected, went full send mode, locking in a smooth, full-length boardslide on the battleship rail and then repeating it on the down rail. Meanwhile, Morgan DT was out there tossing both a kickflip and a heelflip over the gap like it was summer at the skatepark, and Ced had the crowd losing it with a late shuv that just hit different.

On the skateboard side, things got hectic fast. Imagine hucking yourself onto a rail, knowing that if you don’t land clean, you’re eating cold, unforgiving plywood. That didn’t stop Ben Paterson from dropping a switch 270 lip slide and a textbook 50-50 on the big rail. Dwayne made sure the smaller rail got some love, stomping a backsmith that had style for days, while Cayden Mckinstray kept things spicy with a boardslide big spin. It was a full-on Cash4Tricks battle—no structured runs, no second chances, just riders feeding off the energy, throwing down, and making sure they walked away with a little extra cash in their pockets.

SATURDAY NIGHT – SKIERS LIGHT UP THE STREETS

The second the sun went down, the skiers clocked in for a night shift of absolute hammers. With snow lightly falling under the city lights, the vibe was straight out of an old-school urban ski edit. The setup was tight, technical, and built for creativity—exactly what this new wave of skiers thrives on.

Jackson Karsteter stole the show and the top spot on the podium with a blind 540 switch-up to pretzel 270 out, proving once again why he’s one of the most exciting street skiers out there. This dude sees rails differently than most, and he made sure everyone knew it. Coming in hot for second place, Tom Wallisch, the OG rail boss, reminded everyone why he’s still one of the smoothest in the game. His blind 360 switch-up to continuing 450 out was a masterclass in technical control. Kuura Koivisto rounded out the podium in third, stomping a 450 on, back switch-up, 270 out, proving that the new generation isn’t here to play around.

The women’s side brought the heat just as hard. Taylor Lundquist took the win with a back switch-up to 270 out, dripping with style and precision. Marion Balsamo secured second with another back switch-up to 270 out, and Megan Oldham, best known for her big air game, showed she can hold it down on rails too, grabbing third with a switch-up pretzel 270 out.

SAMSUNG BEST TRICK

The best part? When the comp wrapped, Cash4tricks the format kept the session alive. Riders threw down for redemption, pride, and straight-up cash, sending some of the heaviest tricks of the night in the process. If you missed it, hit the APIK Fest stream—this one deserves a full rewatch.

SUNDAY SEND-FEST – SNOWBOARDERS THROW IT DOWN

By Sunday, the energy in Mississauga was peaking, and the snowboarders made sure the weekend closed out on the highest possible note. It was déjà vu on the men’s podium, with the same three riders as last year—just shuffled up a bit. This time, Liam Brearley took the top spot with a switch back nose on the battleship up, rail-to-rail cab 1 to the down rail, and a front blunt same way 2 out. With Ontario roots and a history of blowing minds in urban settings, Liam wasn’t going to let this one slip. Coltan Eckert followed up in second with a 50-50 hardway backside 270 rail-to-rail, finishing with a 270 out—heavy, technical, and locked. Frank Jobin, always one to bring some serious street flavor, claimed third with a switch backside 360 to front 1 out, which was arguably one of the best-scored trick of the night.

On the women’s side, Laurie Blouin showed once again why she’s one of the best to ever do it, stomping a 50-50 on the up of the battleship, front 2 to the down, and riding away clean to secure the win. Paula Benito came through with a front board pretzel for second, and Natalie Allport rounded out the podium with a back 50 back 3 out—pure style from start to finish.

And because this is APIK Mississauga presented by Samsung Galaxy, the action didn’t stop when the podium was set. Cash4Tricks lit up the session one last time, giving riders a chance to leave it all out there, push the limits even further, and walk away with some extra cash in their hands.
